Extended Itinerary
From Nairobi to Nairobi via Tanzania - Trip Highlights Masai people, Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti Park
Cooking: We take turns with the cooking. Two meals a day are included while on the truck. We normally have lunch out at local cafes on the way, lots of fun. Meals out are not included.
Camping: We have made a short note of the campsites we use at the end of each day. Those that are more basic tend to be more scenic; that is especially in the game parks where basic toilets and cold showers are the norm. After a night at such camps we do our best to follow with a hot shower bar campsite. Although in the Serengeti and Crater are two basic nights, the wild beauty and the animals in the park more than makes up for this.
Changes: You should be aware that things change frequently in Africa; camps open and close, as do the roads. So there is a chance that the itinerary may have to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Start & before the trip: We leave the camp at 8am on the first day of the trip. We recommend you arrive in Nairobi the day before, however if you're there with a few days to spare there's lots to see and do around the city. Close to the camp is Karen Blixen's, Langata Giraffe Centre or even Nairobi National Park for a first glimpse of African wildlife.
Day 1: Monday - Kenya to Tanzania, We cross the Masai plains to the border town of Namanga, and departing Kenya for Tanzania. We spend the night at a campsite near Arusha the northern capital of Tanzania. The camp has good facilities, a bar and restaurant.
Days 2 & 3: Tuesday & Wednesday, Today you go to the Serengeti Park & Ngorongoro Crater. We take 4x4 vehicles with a guide to cross the Rift Valley, passing through the Crater to the vast plains of the Serengeti to look for animals and spend the night on the plains. We spend the next day game driving through the park and climb to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The two nights camping in the parks are very basic but very exciting, the Serengeti camp is right in the middle of the park and the camp on the crater rim is cold and high in the clouds, when the mist clears - amazing.
Day 4: Thursday, Early in the morning we descend to the heart of the crater to see the game. The Crater is a collapsed, extinct volcano, thousands of years old and supports a wide range of wildlife. It's an excellent place getting close to the animals, as in a small area there is a high concentration of animals un-afraid of vehicles. After lunch we leave the crater and re-cross the floor of the Rift Valley to Arusha. The camp has good facilities, a bar and restaurant.
Day 5: Friday - Tanzania to Kenya, On this the last day of your trip we return you to Nairobi on the Impala Hotel shuttle bus which departs at 8 am and arrives in Nairobi at approximately 1 pm. |
